Salah-Eddin Al-Batran, MD
Salah-Eddin Al-Batran, MD, is Director of the Institute of Clinical Cancer Research and Director of GI Oncology at Krankenhaus Nordwest-University Cancer Center, Frankfurt. His main fields of interest are esophageal and stomach cancer and health-related quality of life. Dr. Al-Batran is haematologist and oncologist. He received his medical degree from the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich. After the completion of an internship and residency in internal medicine, Dr. Al-Batran completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at Krankenhaus Nordwest. Dr. Al-Batran is the founder and director of FLOT Gastric Cancer Network which comprises more than 100 medical centers and is coordinating investigator of numerous clinical trials for the treatment of solid malignancies. In the lab or within an associated biomarker network, Dr. Al-Batran guides a comprehensive translational research program, focusing on gaining a better understanding of the development and treatment of esophagogastric cancer and other malignancies. Dr. Al-Batran is the current spokesman for the Gastric/esophageal Cancer Group steering committee of the AIO and the grounder/former spokesman of the Quality of Life/PRO Working Group. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the German Society of Clinical Oncology (AIO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). Dr. Al-Batran is a teacher of internal medicine at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe-University of Frankfurt. He has given numerous lectures at national and international symposia and conferences.
